Cake.

Oh yeah...here's my attempt at making a "Happy Engagement" cake for my sis and her fiancee :) I tried to spell out the two words with m&ms but all I could squeeze in was "HAPP" and ended up having to pull them all off and start over with a different design.

Week's Update.

Wow, it's been a while. The week following my exam is pretty much a blur. I went out a lot. Lots of eating, shopping, dancing and mingling! Thanks for all the birthday greetings:D

It's crazy having a birthday in the same week as K. We celebrate mine, then mine and hers, then hers, then ours again. We went out to a few clubs and at this one in particular, the girls were attracting a lot of attention. While we were having drinks, this guy came up to us, tried to get our attention and then proceeded to push a lit-up cigarette in his fist and make it disappear. Half an hour later, I get a tap on my shoulder and he's back again, doing the same trick and making me hold my hand out so he could miraculously make the cigarette appear in my hand. He came back a third time with a different trick while we were on the dancefloor and that time I just had to say something. It's in your thumb! A lot of crazies that night. A few who wrongly guessed that I'm Japanese, Korean, Indo (basically just going through all the asian countries they know). On that very same night, the DJ came up to me and I thought, hmm...you're rather cute.....but then he stepped aside, revealing his friend to me -a smaller, somewhat dorkier version of William Hung - and tried to get me to dance with his friend. I accidentally hit some guy's face with the back of my head twice - hey! I don't expect strange guys to be touching me in those areas, plus I'm ticklish!

I've come to the conclusion that people see me and think I must be some huge dork. They then feel sorry for me and find an even dorkier guy to set me up with, in attempts to make me feel better about myself :P

The past weekend I went for our association's annual general meeting. It was crazy! My first and last hopefully. Important people were at it head-to-head and when we had to vote on some very serious issues, one guy in particular was trying to tell my friends and I what to do (because we're fresh grads, we know nothing, and it's apparently easy to sway our votes) and it was so irritating, I decided not to vote either way. I could feel his bullet go through my head multiple times. It went on for so long, we actually missed the dinner reservation we had made that night. Dinner with friends was great. We had Spanish food in the city and lots of sangria :)

Mom came back during the week too ...it's been hectic :)

A few more minutes until my birthday is over! I had a big Saturday night. Went to bed at 6am, 24 hours after I woke up to revise for my Board Exam (lets not go there, not today!).4 hours of that and I was rushing off to work. After work I was all excited to go out but just had to watch the hurricane special on Oprah. I cried =/ Great way to start the night.

It did turn out to be a great night though. We went to a few bars/nightclubs and later met up with some guy that likes K. He happened to be with two gorgeous friends of his. I watched as the cutest one approached C and I'm thinking, oh here we go...I'll just sit in the corner and be non-existant now while he tries to pick her up. He asked her if she'd like to play pool against him and his friend and she said sure. Then he just looks at me.

So? You wanna play?' he asks.

What? ME!? Didn't you just witness how bad I was in the last two games?

I suppose my helplessness clinched it for him because he walked up to me and just started talking to me and asking me all kinds of questions. I was shocked. I mean, hey, it's my birthday and everything and you should all give me extra love and attention [ :) ] but he didn't know that and I'm well..probably the biggest dork of the group - no one notices me, no one asks for my number. That's right. So I was really surprised by his move - and I thought he was serious about pool (I like it, I'm just not that great at it - although I did sink a couple of great shots!). He basically ignored C, which I thought was kind of mean. We talked and talked but I'd had a bit to drink and it took all my braincells to focus on every word he was saying because I couldn't decipher his strong (but nice!) Irish accent. He couldn't understand me all that well either. A few times I pretended to understand what he was saying, only to realise later that I'd agreed to liking Bjorn. Aaaanyways... :)

Today was basically my recovery day from last night. I wish I'd taken advantage of the great weather but I was on the phone most of the day, then napped until 5pm and had to rush to the library to return my overdue books. Oh, and I got a hefty parking fine while I was doing my exam yesterday (I didn't have $15 freaking dollars worth of coins to put into the machine (seriously, why does a university charge so much for parking? People that go there are almost always broke :P) so just had to risk leaving the car there for four and a half hours.

Damn this headache.. =/

My sister's boyfriend ..sorry, fiancee came back tonight bearing birthday gifts from my family :) He had bought me a gift but left it overseas! He was so upset that he didn't bring anything for me and kept saying he should have brought a cake on his way back from the airport...aww. I haven't really come across any couples that I'm jealous of and I'm not jealous of my sister's relationship either but he really is a nice guy. Does everything for everyone and is genuine about it. He told me all about his 'plan' to propose to my sister, which I'll have to write about another time, and I was actually moved. Very sweet and original. She's lucky to have him =)

I can't believe I'm 25. I feel younger than when I was 23. That's the way I like it :)

Holy shit. My sister just got engaged!

She had a ticket booked for Malaysia and flew back two days ago. Her boyfriend had taken the week off and was going home to spend time with his family in Newcastle.

Me? I figure, with the exception of him, I am the only one left in this country. Stuck at home studying for my Board exam this Saturday. I'm sitting here doing an online practice test and I get a phonecall from sis. First thing that comes out of my mouth - 'You have to talk quick! I'm doing an online exam and I'm being timed!'

She starts to say one or two words and then it's muffled with crying and I'm thinking, oh shit, is she okay? Did she have an accident? Did someone die?!

'I'm engaged!' she shouts.

I can't believe it! That bastard flew over there yesterday without telling me! That sneaky, sneaky boy! Sunday night we were watching Aust Idol together and during the ad break, he took a small suitcase to the bedroom to pack (because apparently he was going home to see his parents who live two hours away) and I made fun of him for bringing a suitcase back to Newcastle. Plus he asked to borrow my camera battery charger (this one I let slide because well..I guess some people just wanna take pics with their parents? :P )

Now I really am the ONLY one here. AND it's MY freaking birthday in 5 days. Talk about stealing my limelight!

Wow. I can't believe it. I'm gonna have a Scottish brother :D

Two embarassing moments today.

One.

After work, I was waiting with 3 other people for the elevator to come to the 5th floor. I suddenly got impatient and thought to myself 'I bet I can get down faster by running down the stairs'.

After going through the doors to the stairs, I stupidly realise each level has two flights of stairs, and, after scurrying down one flight, I realise I'm going to have to haul ass if I want to beat those people on the 5th floor. So, I pick up speed and I'm met by a man on the 4th floor who's also moving down the stairs quite fast. I'm following behind him and when we get to the first floor, with two flights of stairs left before we hit Ground floor, he suddenly threw himself against the railing, letting me pass him by and said 'Go ahead, it looks like you're in a VERY big rush!'. I was too embarassed to say 'No, I'm really just trying to beat 3 strangers in an elevator to the bottom of the building.' As I thanked him for letting me pass, I heard the 'ding' of the elevator at Ground floor. The elevator doors opened and out poured the 3 strangers just as I stepped foot onto the marble floor. A tie! Damn them!

Of course I then had to stick to my fast paced walking and pretend that I was actually in a rush for a real reason incase that man was still behind me.

Two.

With a big smile on my face and no guilty feelings, I headed straight for that jewellery store housing my precious $49 earrings. My happy feet wound their way around crowds of shoppers and people sneaking off work early and finally reach the glass window with all it's shimmering glory locked inside. Mmmm...after three weeks of countless oggling, I'm there and they shall finally be mine! Then I see it. Nothing. An empty space. WHAT?! How can they not be there?! When someone buys one, you put a new set up. These can't be the ONLY ones?!

The salesgirl asked if I needed help and I asked her if they had the earrings. I showed her where they had been displayed all that time. She said she didn't remember any earrings being there and that perhaps they had been sold - What!? How can you not remember?! They've been here for over three weeks and they were still there two days ago! Then she tells me she's not really the person to ask and to wait for her manager, who was busy. Ok. Two minutes later she finds me staring at the empy space and asks if I'd like to look at anything else.

'No, I just came here to get these earrings.'

(haha, what a sad loser-ish nerdy moment).

I waited ten whole minutes for the store owner to finish showing another customer some jewellery and find out that, yes, they are the only ones. And they've been sold.

:(

Bling.

For two weeks straight, after work, I've been walking past these gorgeous pair of earrings and drooling over them in the boxed window. I've been complaining cause I feel like I just can't bring myself to fork out $50 bucks (okay, so they're not even $50, they're $49) for them little dangly gems.

Then I see this in today's SMH :

"Jay Z may have thought he was pushing the boat out buying Beyonce Knowles a $2.5 million diamond ring, but how about this $200 million piece of super bling?

The Dresden Green Diamond is reputedly world's biggest green diamond, weighing in at 40.7 carats.

It was shown for the first time in Japan today to mark the fifth anniversary of US jeweller Harry Winston's Ginza shop in Tokyo. "

That's it. Tomorrow I am going to splurge and happily fork out the $49 for my not-so-super-in-comparison bling.
