Another year goes by!

I was about to write a blurb on how this year is about to end and I've achieved so little but it's dawned on me that it's actually quite the opposite. I've done quite a fair bit this year!
I've graduated. I've sat for another country's board exams - and passed! I've travelled. I've stayed on a beautiful island free of charge and swam with baby sharks. I've worked overseas. I've picked myself up from heartache and tears and found myself in a better relationship (albeit with the same guy). I've volunteered my time at the dog pound walking some real cuties! I ran 6km without passing out. I've broken out of my I-can't-cook shell and started cooking for people. [Okay, so by people I really just mean family, and my soon-to-be brother-in-law but hey that's great for me since I've been lacking confidence. That'll be one of next year's resolution.] I've mixed and mingled with an assortment of weird and wonderful people. I have learned am still learning to bite my tongue when I get into conflicts with my mom. I trusted an asian girl with dry, rusty orange hair to cut off my locks and not burn my head with the dryer. I've decided that mussels are edible, but they still look like a part of the female anatomy and it will take me awhile to get over that. I've read a bunch of non-educational books, after so many years of not having the chance to. I've reduced my road rage by over 50%. I've re-started keeping in touch with friends the old way - letter writing. Finally I've learned that I'm really not so bad a person and that I'm worth it. Enough said!
One more thing, perhaps.
Happy New Year, Folks! Best wishes to you all for 2006. Have a fun but safe one! See you in the New Year!

Christmastime in Oz is great.
Super hot, sunny days means cold refreshing drinks and watermelon dripping down your chin.
The freshest seafood imaginable means lunch consists of prawns, oysters, sashimi, calamari and more! Mmm!
Dessert is icecream in an assortment of delicious flavours! None of that boring grandma fruitcake stuff (which I used to love when I was about 7, strangely enough).
Music is the sound of mahjong tiles, being shuffled about. We played from 10-2am because I lost all my money! Damnit!

Happy Holidays!

I hope you all get to spend some time with family and loved ones....without getting at each others throats (like my mom and I have already done).

Wednesday morning - my neighbour's cockatoo wakes me up with its 30 minute 9000000decibel screeching.
Thursday morning - my neighbour's lawnmowing wakes me up. He uses an edger and it sounds like he's cutting through concrete. Very irritating.
This morning - I really wanted to sleep in but my neighbour had a friend over and they were talking rather loudly...
Imagine two 75 year old males having a nice morning get-together...
"Oh Charlotte? They found another lump in her.. so I went to the doctor myself to checked out. Hey, they found a lump in me ballsack."
"Oh yeah?"
"Yeah. I got a...a.....an ultrasound. This is what they do - the doctor says "Take all your clothes off. Please hold your nuts. Then he squeezes this gel stuff all over the ball.."
OK I'M UP! I'M UP! Spare me!

Ooooh so I've been infected I see.
Here's 5 random facts about me:
- I have some really obscure fears and obsessive compulsive behaviour.
- I can hold my breath for two minutes.
- I just found out this year that 'use sparingly' means the opposite of what I thought it meant all these years =( No wonder all my expensive stuff ran out so fast.
- I have a birthmark on my butt. A fact I'm sure you really wanted to know.
- I'm a terrible singer.
Ok, I'm done. Now it's your turn: Karen, Kiki, Stacy, Carlos and Johann

Warning: Spoiler. If you haven't seen Australian Idol by now and don't want to know the results, skip this entry!
Gosh, i was SO mad earlier this evening, at my mom. She is really bad when it comes to keeping secrets and not ruining surprises. Four weeks ago, while I was still away she sent me a text message and it hinted at who won Australian Idol. I was really upset about it and got S to delete the message before I even finished reading it. Anyways, I kind of forgot about it and since I've been back my mom's been repeatedly asking me what we're going to watch (I have a bunch of tapes to catch up on, different shows etc since I've been away) and I said I really wanted to see Australian Idol so we started watching it tonight except I had rewound the tape back a little too far and it was playing the last episode I saw before I left. Anyways, about 5 minutes before that episode ended (I wasn't really interested in watching it since I had seen it already but was waiting for my mom to finish watching it), my mom goes 'that Kate's cd came out today you know' . I couldn't BELIEVE IT. I was so mad that she'd said that right before I was about to watch it and find out for myself. I'd waited this long without knowing...I was so irritated, I just walked out of the room and all I remember doing was lying face down on my bed. Funnily enough about ten minutes later I was completely fine and I ended up watching the final episode by myself. It went for like three hours! Way too long.
Anyways, I don't know how to let my mom know but I really just want to catch up on my tapes by myself. I don't want to watch it with her or anyone else really. I'm a bit annoyed that she didn't come to apologise about it...she was just like 'ooops!'

I hate goodbyes.
I wanted to update yesterday, before I flew home to say how much I'm going to miss this place. I really don't want to leave and there's nothing that I'm that excited to go back to, cept maybe my cat, who I'm sure will run and hide under the sofa because he's forgotten who I am (he actually did that last time I was gone for a substantial amount of time).
So anyways, I'm updating now, because well...I didn't fly home yesterday. I MISSED MY FLIGHT. Stupid freaking slow people at the airports. It didn't surprise them and it didn't surprise me that this would happen.
'I'm going to put you on the flight that leaves two hours later'
'But...that will arrive AFTER my connecting flight leaves. '
Silence.
'That's correct.'
'So....there isn't much point me catching this next flight then.'
'Hmm. Let me see what I can do.'
Anyways...I'm not really complaining. I don't want to leave. Though as much as I like it here, I still can't adjust to the whole driving-on-the-other-side-of-the-road business. When I'm walking I haven't been able to cross the road without turning my head in the right direction once. Not once :( I guess you can't teach an old dog new tricks. Damn those engrams.

I love that the bookstores here close at 11pm. There's something about bookstores that make my heart tingle. There are so many sections to peruse through. I'd never imagine myself to be interested in many of the topics displayed but I always find myself pulling out all sorts of weird and wonderful books and letting the words simmer over my tastebuds for a few minutes.

GRR. First day here and my laptop dies and NO ONE here sells international adapters. What the hell is up with that?! I thought this was supposed to be the country that had everything. I had to order them in. I can't believe that. Gees.
Alright, I'm done complaining cause at least I can check all my stuff online now :D
